“I was lucky enough to be the first wedding held at Flat Mountain Farm. Chris and Margaret have created magic in the mountains unlike any other wedding venue. While Highlands is a popular wedding destination, nothing compares to a wedding at Flat Mountain Farm, which is what drew us to the location. Margaret's vision and eye for design are just the cherry on top of the already beautiful landscape that being in Highlands provides. When the band showed up and realized they needed more outlets to get the party started, Chris made it happen. When our wedding planner needed to do a site visit (or multiple), Margaret welcomed her. It has been so much fun to follow along on social media and see other weddings held at Flat Mountain Farm and how the space has continued to evolve. Each wedding is different from the one before. I love that Flat Mountain Farm provides the venue for a unique and individualized wedding, where there is no "formula" for what to do and you can truly make it your own. As I'm sure every bride says, I wish I could relive that day all over again!”

“Our family spent a week at this amazing farm. It was perfect and the restoration first class. We loved the charm and history of this property, which has been restored and updated with all the modern luxurious touches. If you want the charm of a cabin in the woods yet feel like you are at the Ritz Carlton this is the place. They thought of everything to make you feel right at home. There was plenty of room to spread out with the kids having their own space upstairs while the adults were downstairs. We enjoyed sitting on the front porch, snuggling around the fireplace, and exploring all the property has to offer. Our Hosts were extremely gracious and helpful in every way. We were lucky enough to be their first guests and we can’t wait for our return stay.”

“My husband and I settled on our happy place, Highlands, NC as the perfect place to get married. We stumbled upon Flat Mountain Farm & immediately fell in love with the property. Our ceremony was small & included all of our closest friends and family members. No matter what season you decide to get married, this property will be STUNNING. The owner, Margaret, has a beautiful story and background. She has thought of absolutely everything to deliver a magical experience. There is so much charm on every foot of the property. Each place to stay (Wren, Kingfisher, & Airstream) have the most thoughtful touches & great views. The design of each space is detailed, classy, & has tons of personality. Margaret allows her guests to "personalize" their wedding experience so that each wedding or event planned is one of a kind. Celebrate outside by the pond, inside the restored barn, or by a waterfall! The versatility of the property makes planning an event so much more memorable! We loved our experience & our friends have not stopped talking about it. Don't even get us started on the sunset photo opportunities... your pictures will be absolutely breathtaking!”

“This cabin was absolutely stunning! It was recently renovated and has all the conveniences you want plus all the charm and character of an old cabin. Beautifully decorated it has a Ralph Lauren feel to it. Beds were extremely comfortable and everything was so tastefully and thoughtfully done. Margaret was a dream to work with and extremely welcoming and helpful. Definitely hope to stay there again!”

“Our wedding on 11/4/22 was everything I had dreamed of and more. Margaret and Chris thought of every detail when designing the farm. The Wren and Kingfisher were the coziest cabins for the bridal party to get ready before the ceremony. Close to the town of Highlands, yet a secluded mountain retreat with every modern amenity!”

“This was hands down one of the most thoughtful , well-planned homes we stayed at. We usually never rent a home due to us being grossed out by what you find or lack of but I’m glad we did, and wow The Kingfisher was beyond great, it was magical! There is a picturesque water fall/creek outside the porch you can hear it from your rocking chair or the hanging swing, drinking your coffee watching your breath as the sun rises up in the morning, you can hear birds chirping and the water flow. Did I say magical ?! Oh and the smell of fresh air and the Mountains. The host couldn’t have been more gracious. Every little detail between the custom label soaps, the quality sheets, towels , pillows lines, appliances like Monogram, Viking, Meile, etc. Was top notch. I was looking. To see where she got her linens from as I too want them !!! I’m afraid to tell you how good this home really is and I want to definitely come back and rent it but this is a place that will be hard to book the more people know about it. The best part it’s 9 min from highlands downtown and wait for it it’s on a private lake !!! Stocked with Trout you can fish and a 5 min hike on property taxes to two waterfalls!! Yes two !!! The views are so private you don’t feel like there are any houses around for miles. The drive way was easy to get to and from and we took a large Class B so we easily parked it. Also the fire pit was amazing and fully stocked with wood , a lighter and a starter kits , well thought out ! The place was super clean and well maintained. We had 7 people stay there and the kids played up stairs and around the property we were worry free. I look forward to stay again and again. Thank you all for these memories.”

“Flat Mountain Farm was a magical mountain venue for my daughter's rehearsal dinner and wedding reception in September 2022. We loved having one location for the events. The venue property was beautiful and the perfect spot for wedding photos. The cabins were lovely for accommodating both families. Lindsay and Bailey loved staying in the Chikadee on their wedding night. Situated in the mountains near beautiful Highlands, NC, Flat Mountain Farm is a great location to stay a bit longer and enjoy an extended vacation filled with hiking, rafting, shopping and dining. We can't wait to return!”

“What a beautiful home - we were so impressed with the renovation done to make this feel like a luxury retreat. It is just 8 minutes from Highlands but tucked away in the woods and feels secluded. The design touches are magazine worthy. We loved our stay and hope to come back again for more time.”

“If there were more stars available I would give them a 20 star review. We are a fellow wedding vendor and there aren't enough polite words available to describe their services and quality. Thank you for all you do!”

“Rarely are our expectations exceeded, but our stay at the Kingfisher was beyond extraordinary. We traveled with our grown kids (21&24) and our two year old, along with our friends. The setting is so serene, and the layout & decor were perfect. The big kids took the bunk room & the couples had privacy in each master. Our toddler loved exploring the farm, but I was not anxious about her “messing up” anything in the cabin as it was very kid-friendly. The morning sun on the side patio was magnificent for our al fresco brunch, and we relished s’mores around the fire pit in the evening. The men were perfectly satisfied watching college football in the comfy loft while the ladies chatted around the cozy fireplace downstairs. Margaret & Chris (owners) were so responsive to us, and we appreciated the luxurious touches of linens, bath products, fresh flowers, etc. We also benefitted from their restaurant & activity suggestions, enjoying dinner at On The Veranda & takeout from Highlands Smokehouse & marveling at the glorious views on the nearby Whiteside Mountain trail hike.
